Keukenhof 2018 is open from March 22nd 2018 untill May 13th 2018.
It is the most beautiful flower garden ever to be seen: ‘the flower garden of Amsterdam’.
Holland Private Tours has a passion for garden photography and during the Keukenhof Tours we will show you the nicest spots and give you tips and behind the scenes information.
On this webpage Keukenhof Tours, we will publish a ’tulip alert’: about an early or late blooming.
The theme of Keukenhof 2018 will be ‘Romance in Flowers’. The flower shows will also have romance as their theme. The rose show will be bigger than ever: the red rose, the symbol of true love.
About 30 gardeners work year-round at Keukenhof and they started planting in October 2017.
The Mondrian flower mosaic is composed of colour and lines. Using primary colours only. 80.000 flowerbulbs have been used. Tulips, muscari an crocus.
Keukenhof’s name was introduced by Countess Jacoba van Beieren in the 15th century. Her land was used for hunting and growing herbs for the castle’s kitchen, Keukenhof, or Kitchen Garden.
In 1857, Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher, who also designed Vondelpark in Amsterdam, re-designed the area into an English styled garden.
In 1949 twenty Dutch bulb growers initiated Keukenhof as a showcase for spring bulbs. The following year, the park opened already to 236,000 visitors.
So 2016 is Keukenhof’s 67th opening to the public.
Keukenhof’s size is 32 hectares or 79 acres. The bulbs are supplied, for free, by 100 bulb growers.
More than one million people are expected to visit Keukenhof. The majority comes from more than 100 countries abroad.
In addition to the tulip gardens, Keukenhof also hosts a Japanese garden, an English landscape garden, a spring meadow, a natural garden, a historic garden, a garden maze, and seven inspiration gardens that are different each year. Known for tulips, Keukenhof shows also the world’s largest lily show, at the end of the opening season.
Five main pavilions: Oranje Nassau, Wilhelmina, Juliana, Beatrix and Willem Alexander Pavilion. Inside flower and plant shows take place. A panel of experts chooses the best examples in each category.
